REMAINS presents a journey into the deep internal wilderness through a collection of mixed media
collages, assemblage, print-based works and poetry. Rooted in the fertile soil of loss and the revelations
borne of grief's embrace, this collection by Lanecia poses inquiries into the essence of self, the tensions
of memory’s beholding, the complexities of learned femininity, and the resilience of what endures.
Each piece integrates disparate elements—from discarded books, drafting paper, charcoal, and vintage
Ebony magazines to personal artifacts like a deconstructed wedding dress, Lanecia’s photography and
photographs from her maternal family archive—culminating in a visual poetry that extends an invitation to
wander into this wilderness with the artist. Juxtaposing past and present, these works offer a terrain
where decay births creation, the representational merges with the abstract, and symbolism portrays
themes of courage, transformation, inner child longings, and communal strength.
REMAINS invites viewers to contemplate and explore the intricacies of the narratives that shape the human experience into
a mosaic of profound beauty, profound sorrow, and everything in between.
